Breaking Bad

Breaking Bad is an American television drama series created and produced by Vince Gilligan. The series is produced by Sony Pictures Television and broadcast in the United States and Canada on the cable network AMC. It premiered on January 20, 2008, and completed its first seven-episode season on March 9, 2008. The show’s 13-episode second season ran from March 8 to May 31, 2009. A third season was announced in April 2009 to premiere in March 2010.

Finder-Spyder can be seen in the episode “The Cat’s in the Bag.”

Set and produced in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Breaking Bad revolves around Walter White (Bryan Cranston), a struggling high school chemistry teacher with many family issues. When White is diagnosed with terminal lung cancer, he breaks down and turns to a life of crime, and starts producing and selling methamphetamine with his former student Jesse Pinkman (Aaron Paul) in a desire to secure his family’s financial future.

Breaking Bad has received widespread critical acclaim, particularly for its writing and Cranston’s lead performance, and has won four Emmy Awards in addition to numerous other awards and nominations.

Lead actor Bryan Cranston stated in an interview that “the term ‘breaking bad’ is a southern colloquialism and it means when someone who has taken a turn off the path of the straight and narrow, when they’ve gone wrong. And that could be for that day or for a lifetime.”

The series is set and filmed in and near Albuquerque, New Mexico.

The AMC network, on which the series premiered January 20, 2008, originally ordered nine episodes for the first season (including the pilot), but the Writers Guild of America strike limited the production to seven episodes.

Walter White, a chemistry teacher with a pregnant wife, Skyler, and a son with cerebral palsy, is diagnosed with stage-three terminal lung cancer. Determined to develop a sufficient inheritance for his family before his death, Walter enters the drug trade, using his chemistry knowledge to cook remarkably potent methamphetamine (crystal meth) with Jesse Pinkman, a former student. Operating out of a recreational vehicle in the desert, the two defend themselves from two local drug dealers, formerly Jesse’s distributors, who accuse Walter of being a DEA agent. At gunpoint, Walter bargains his and Jesse’s life for the recipe to his crystal meth and poisons them with phosphine gas during the production process, leaving the two dealers to suffocate in the RV, before driving away with an injured Jesse in tow.

Walter and Jesse discover that one of the dealers is still alive and decide to restrain him in Jesse’s basement. After a coin flip, Jesse is tasked with disposing of the dead dealer’s body, while Walter must deal with killing the other, a prospect that sickens him. Jesse dissolves the dead body in a bathtub of hydrofluoric acid, but the acid eats through the tub and the floor beneath it, dumping the remaining semi-dissolved body into the hall below. Meanwhile, Walter has begun providing food and a latrine to his prisoner, Krazy-8, whom he also confides in, giving him time in attempting to find an excuse to leave him alive. Due to his illness, Walter passes out briefly while delivering food in one such instance, breaking a plate. Awakening later, Walter picks up the broken plate and, after a “heart-to-heart” with Krazy-8, goes to retrieve the key to set him free. However, while upstairs, Walt has discovered that there is a large sharp piece of the plate missing. Realizing that Krazy-8 intends to kill him the second he sets him free, Walter decides that he has no choice but to kill the dealer. Following the disposal of the body, Walter severs ties with Jesse and the drug trade.

Meanwhile, Walter’s brother-in-law Hank, who actually is a DEA agent deduces that there is a new drug producer in the region, following a trail of evidence left at Walter’s cook site. It is also revealed that Walter’s sister-in-law, Marie, is an occasional shoplifter. Later, Walter reveals to his family, Marie, and Hank, that he has cancer. They implore him to visit specialist doctors and undergo chemotherapy. While Walter is adamant at first to decide his own fate, to die honorably instead of suffering the indignities of chemotherapy side-effects, Walter finally agrees to treatment. He pretends to accept financial assistance from wealthy friends as a cover story to explain the source of payment for his chemotherapy. In reality, he approaches Jesse to rebuild their business arrangement and so pay for the treatments himself as a matter of pride. Jesse, unable to replicate Walter’s recipe, accepts Walter’s partnership and agrees to their clearly defined roles: Jesse as the salesman and Walter as the cook. Jesse learns that Walter has lung cancer, and realizing his goals of helping his family after his death, develops a newfound respect for him.

Dissatisfied with the insufficient profit that Jesse is bringing in solely through lowly street deals, Walter sends Jesse to negotiate with Tuco, who has taken over local drug distribution—and is also, unbeknownst to Walt, a violent psychopath. During their first meeting, Tuco refuses to pay up front for the product and savagely beats Jesse when he attempts to end the deal. With Jesse in the hospital, Walt, under the pseudonym of “Heisenberg,” confronts Tuco with a demand for an up-front payment. As Tuco prepares to assault him, Walt detonates a small amount of mercury(II) fulminate, creating an explosion that blows out the top floor of the hideout and intimidates Tuco into surrendering payment with a promise for future business. Jesse recovers from his wounds and the two resume cooking meth, this time circumventing the restrictions on over-the-counter pseudoephedrine products by stealing a large drum of methylamine from a chemical warehouse and using an alternate method of synthesis. Now able to produce four times as much crystal meth as before, the two begin steady business with an increasingly psychopathic Tuco.

After killing one of his deputies, Tuco kidnaps Walter and Jesse, planning to take them to a superlab in Mexico after the DEA raids his operation in Albuquerque. The two manage to incapacitate Tuco and escape. Hank, in his search for the missing Walt, comes across a wounded Tuco. A shootout occurs resulting in Hank killing Tuco. Walter engineers a return home claiming to have been in a fugue state, but this excuse has numerous holes and creates an uneasy distrust in his relationship with Skyler. The DEA seizes Jesse’s “drug” money, putting a strain on his partnership with Walter after he demands half of Walter’s meth profit to save him from homelessness.

Jesse rents a new place and becomes romantically involved with his landlord, Jane, a recovering drug addict. With Tuco dead, Walter and Jesse decide to move their business into new territory, but more problems arise as their enterprise expands. One of their dealers, Skinny Pete, is mugged, so Jesse is forced to confront the perpetrators. One of the addicts is killed by his girlfriend, but Jesse receives the credit, earning him fear and respect and further solidifying “Heisenberg” in the area. Another dealer, Badger, is arrested by the DEA, forcing Walter to deal with Saul Goodman (played by Bob Odenkirk), a crooked lawyer who offers a solution to keep Badger from snitching while also keeping him alive. Walter and Jesse attempt to intimidate Saul, but Saul makes a deal with Walter for a cut of the meth profit in return for being Walter and Jesse’s legal counsel and advisor in their drug operation, further eroding their income.

Considered a hero for killing Tuco, Hank is promoted and sent to El Paso. In private, he suffers panic attacks due to the unexpected shootout with Tuco. El Paso proves to be too much for Hank after he witnesses the severed head of a cartel snitch explode and severely injure fellow DEA officers. He is immediately sent back to Albuquerque by his superiors. Meanwhile, Gretchen, Walter’s former lover and co-head of Gray Matter, discovers Walter has been lying to his family about Gray Matter paying for his cancer treatment. She is horrified when an angry and bitter Walt blames her and her husband, Elliott, for profiting off his research, although she still keeps Walter’s secret for his family’s sake. Skyler goes back to work for Ted Beneke, her former boss who apparently groped her when drunk, forcing her to quit. She increasingly relies on Ted for emotional support due to Walter’s constant absence and strange behavior.

Walter believes his cancer has gotten worse after sneaking a peek of the latest PET/CT scan of his lungs. Having only $16,000 remaining of the meth money after the numerous setbacks, he and Jesse spend several days in the desert cooking 38 pounds of meth to sell off before Walter dies. At the doctor, Walter discovers his cancer has not spread and his tumor has, in fact, shrunk by 80% and what he thought was growth was actually inflammation. Walt plans to end the meth operation once the 38 pounds are sold off, but finds himself bored with the return to his mundane life, finding pleasure only when he is distracted or dealing with dangerous situations.

When one of Walter and Jesse’s dealers, Combo, is killed by rival dealers, Jesse is sent spiraling into a drug addiction that also drags Jane out of her sobriety. With their remaining dealers backing out, Saul uses his connections to introduce Walter and Jesse to Gus, a discreet, cautious, yet successful drug distributor. Despite never having met or seen Gus, Saul is able to arrange a meeting at a local fast food restaurant. Unbeknownst to Walter, Jesse, or Saul, Gus owns and manages a number of fast food restaurants and has purposely scheduled the meeting at one of his own restaurants in order to observe Walter and Jesse. Jesse arrives for the meeting late and high on drugs and leaves the restaurant after briefly arguing with Walter. Having seen this, Gus deems them unreliable and chooses not to approach Walter, who initially assumes that Gus has stood them up. Walter eventually deduces that the manager of the restaurant was in fact the man they were to meet, and later approaches him for a second chance. Gus reluctantly offers to buy Walter’s product for 1.2 million dollars and offers him only a short time frame to deliver it. Walter attempts to contact Jesse to complete the exchange, but he and Jane are incapacitated after an injection of heroin. Walter is forced to carry out the trade himself just as Skyler goes into labor. He manages to complete the transaction at the cost of missing the birth of his daughter.

Walter loses trust in Jesse and promises to give him his share of the payout only if he agrees to go sober. Upon learning of the money and Jesse’s relationship with Walter, Jane concocts a plan to blackmail Walter and convinces a reluctant Jesse to go along. Jane calls Walter and threatens to turn him in to the authorities if he doesn’t give Jesse his share of the money. Walter reluctantly complies and the two agree to go their separate ways, but Walter feels obligated to help Jesse. Coincidentally, he meets Jane’s father Donald in a local bar. Unaware of their mutual acquaintances, the two men share perspectives on the challenges of raising children, a subject Walter raises by describing his troubled “nephew”. He returns to Jesse, only to discover that he and Jane have taken heroin again. While attempting to wake up Jesse, he intentionally allows Jane to asphyxiate on her own vomit. Jesse believes he is responsible for Jane’s death and goes into a depression. Walter attempts to help Jesse by taking him to a drug rehabilitation clinic. Meanwhile, Gus discovers that Hank is Walter’s brother-in-law and that Walter has cancer.

As Walter undergoes anesthesia for his lung cancer surgery, he accidentally confirms to Skyler the existence of his secret second cell phone. This prompts her to leave him several weeks later, after she systematically investigates and uncovers his lies. Walter offers to explain everything to Skyler, but she responds that she is too afraid to know the truth. After Skyler leaves, Walter sees an explosion in the skies above his home. A grieving Donald, an air traffic controller, has accidentally directed two airplanes into each other in the sky above Albuquerque. In an image foreshadowed in the season’s first shot, a charred pink teddy bear lands in the Whites’ pool and floats there until it is collected as evidence by NTSB agents.

Breaking Bad has received critical acclaim in addition to two Emmy Awards for its first season. It won the award for best editing, and Bryan Cranston won for best actor in a drama series.

* Walter Hartwell White (played by Bryan Cranston) is a 50-year-old high-school chemistry teacher who has been diagnosed with terminal lung cancer. The diagnosis causes a change in Walter’s mild-mannered nature. He decides that in order to provide for his family after his death, he will use his extensive knowledge of chemistry to manufacture and distribute crystal methamphetamine. He has a wife named Skyler, a son named Walter Jr. and a new-born daughter named Holly. Not much is known about Walter’s past. When he was younger, he was a brilliant chemist and performed groundbreaking research. He founded Gray Matter Technologies with his friend, Elliott Schwartz, and dated his assistant, Gretchen. For reasons not yet explained, Walter suddenly left Gretchen during a vacation with her family, leaving her and his research behind. Gray Matter went on to become a highly successful company using Walter’s research. Walter felt his work was stolen from him and bitterly blames Elliott and Gretchen for his lot in life, although the truth to his claim has not yet been verified.

* Jesse Bruce Pinkman (played by Aaron Paul) is Walter White’s partner in his meth business under the nickname “Captain Cook.” Walter taught his high school chemistry class, which he failed. He comes from an upper middle-class family but was kicked out of his home, presumably because of his drug use. Jesse lived in his late aunt’s house that he inherited, but his parents kicked him out, since they legally own the house and discovered that he was cooking crystal meth in the basement. He has a much younger over-achieving brother named Jake with whom he gets along, despite their age difference and Jesse’s reputation in the family. In season two, Jesse becomes involved with his landlord, Jane. The death of his friend, Combo, sends him spiraling into drug addiction, namely heroin, introduced to him by Jane.

* Skyler White (played by Anna Gunn) is a published short-story writer who sells items on eBay. She and Walter have one son (Walter Jr). She is pregnant during the first two seasons with the couple’s daughter, Holly (born at the end of the second season). She cares for Walter very much, almost to the point that she is making all the decisions in his life for him. Her relationship with Walter becomes more and more strained due to his missing hours and his strange behavior. In season two, money problems force her to return to her old job working for Ted Beneke, whose sexual advances caused her to quit. She increasingly relies on Ted for emotional support. She leaves Walter at the end of season two after uncovering his lies, but she still does not know the truth of her husband’s secret activities.

* Walter White, Jr. (played by RJ Mitte) is Walter and Skyler’s teenage son. He was born with Cerebral Palsy, which causes some speech and motor difficulties in areas such as dressing and walking, for which he uses crutches as an aid. He has recently become distant due to his father’s absence in his life, learning to drive from his friends and wanting to be called “Flynn.” In an effort to help his father pay for surgery, Walter Jr. creates a website asking for donations, which ends up being a successful venture. Unbeknownst to him, the website was hacked by an associate of Walter’s lawyer, Saul Goodman. The money is actually Walter’s meth profit, being laundered through the website as anonymous donations.

* Hank Schrader (played by Dean Norris) is a Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) agent. He is also Walter’s boisterous brother-in-law, and Marie Schrader’s husband. He is currently investigating a possible new meth kingpin in the area named “Heisenberg”, unaware that it is Walter. Although loutish and lewd, he is highly competent at his job and seems to genuinely care about Walter and Walter Jr. When searching for a missing Walter in season two, he stumbled upon the drug baron Tuco and killed him. This awarded him a promotion and a transfer to El Paso, but Hank began to secretly suffer from panic attacks. A harrowing incident with a snitch’s severed head exploding and injuring his fellow DEA agents shook up Hank so much that he was sent back to Albuquerque, where he continues to investigate “Heisenberg.”

* Marie Schrader (played by Betsy Brandt) is Skyler’s sister, Hank’s wife, and Walter’s sister-in-law. She doesn’t hesitate to offer advice to others, but she often fails to practice what she preaches. She shoplifts and may be a kleptomaniac, which she sees a therapist for. She is very self-centered and irrational.

* Jane Margolis (played by Krysten Ritter) was Jesse’s neighbor/landlord/lover. She was a tattoo-artist (without any tattoos) and recovering addict. Although she carried an aloof air, she and Jesse soon become a couple. She eventually relapsed into drug addiction and introduced Jesse to heroin. She threatened to blackmail Walter after he refused to give Jesse his cut from a major deal nearly ruined by Jesse’s addiction. Her actions work, so she and Jesse plan to run away to New Zealand with the money. That night, in Walt’s presence (and with him not intervening), she dies in her sleep by asphyxiating on her own vomit.

* Donald Margolis (played by John de Lancie) is Jane’s father. He owns the building his daughter managed for him. He sent Jane to rehab once before and goes with her to recovery meetings. Donald becomes furious when he discovers that his daughter is back on heroin, suspecting Jesse is at fault. He nearly calls the police but relents when Jane promises to go back into rehab. Depressed, he goes to a bar and strikes up a conversation with a stranger (Walter) about the heartache of raising children. His words inspire Walter to help Jesse get clean from heroin. After Jane’s death, he unwittingly causes a mid-air collision of two planes at his job as an Air Traffic Controller.

* Brandon “Badger” Mayhew (played by Matt L. Jones) is Jesse’s friend. Badger is on probation, but still does drugs. He has a job holding a sign outside of a bank. He and Jesse teamed up briefly to cook meth in season one, using the money from Badger’s job to buy pseudophedrine. However, Jesse disposes of the inferior meth (several times), angering Badger, which escalates to a scuffle. Jesse kicks Badger out of his RV and strands him in the desert. Badger and Jesse reconcile, and Badger helps clear the meth lab from Jesse’s garage and asks his cousin to hide Jesse’s RV. Badger is later enlisted to deal Walter and Jesse’s meth, but is eventually arrested. Badger then flees New Mexico to lay low in Fresno, California.

* Skinny Pete (played by Charles Baker) is Jesse’s friend. He served time in prison with Tuco and introduced him to Jesse. Jesse recruits Skinny Pete to deal meth, although Pete is on probation. He is mugged by two addicts, forcing Jesse to get the money and product back. He may be borderline illiterate, spelling “street” wrong and having trouble reading his own writing. After Badger is nearly arrested and Combo is killed, Pete quits dealing for Jesse, fearing his going back to prison and his own safety.

* Christian “Combo” Ortega (played by Rodney Rush) is Jesse’s friend who also doubles as a dealer of his methamphetamine. Combo was later killed when a rival drug group shot him several times. His death drove Jesse to spiral into drug addiction.

* Carmen (played by Carmen Serano) is the assistant principal at the high school where Walt teaches and Walt Jr. attends.

* Steven Gomez (played by Steven Michael Quezada) is Hank’s DEA partner and friend. A Hispanic himself, he has a lot of knowledge about the inner workings of Mexican gangs. He doesn’t seem to mind Hank’s off-color remarks about his race.

* Gonzo (played by Jesus Payan, Jr.) is Tuco Salamanca’s brother-in-law and one of his lieutenants. He dies while moving No Doze’s body from under stack of cars in a junk yard; the stack shifts and catches his arm under it, partially severing it and causing him to bleed out. When Walter and Jesse learn he is dead, they incorrectly believe that Tuco is killing any witness to No Doze’s murder.

* No Doze (played by Cesar Garcia) is one of Tuco’s head lieutenants in his drug organization. He is beaten to death by Tuco himself in the final episode of season one for making a comment to Walter and Jesse (”Just remember who you work for”), which Tuco took as an offensive remark towards his intelligence.

* Jake Pinkman (Played by Ben Petry) is Jesse’s younger over-achieving brother. Jesse accepts the blame for a joint belonging to Jake.

* Tuco Salamanca (played by Raymond Cruz) is a sociopathic Mexican drug kingpin who becomes Walter and Jesse’s meth distributor towards the end of season one. He is unpredictable and prone to violent outbursts, but surprisingly respects Walter because of his superior product, intelligence, business style, and guts. He kidnapped Walter and Jesse, planning to smuggle them to Mexico to cook in a superlab. The two attempt to poison Tuco with ricin, but he is alerted to the attempt by his invalid uncle. Tuco nearly executes Jesse as a result, but Jesse fights back, shooting him in the stomach. Tuco is then killed by Hank, who arrives afterward by chance. His death earns Hank a promotion at work, but causes him to have guilt and panic attacks.

* Elliott Schwartz (played by Adam Godley) is Walter’s old college science partner and co-owner of Gray Matter, a successful pharmaceutical company co-founded by Walter. He is married to Gretchen Schwartz. Walter blames him and Gretchen for stealing his research and becoming millionaires in the process, although the exact truth of this claim is unknown. Elliott offers to pay for Walter’s treatment. Walter declines, but tells Skyler he has accepted.

* Gretchen Schwartz (played by Jessica Hecht) is Walter’s old college chemistry assistant and now co-owner of Gray Matter, a successful pharmaceutical company. Apparently a former romantic interest of Walt’s, she is currently married to Elliott Schwartz. She discovers that Walter lied to his family about her and Elliott paying for his treatment, horrified when Walter angrily and bitterly blames her and Elliott for ruining his life. Although she claims that Walter sees it wrong, it is still unknown what transpired, only that Walter left her and his research behind suddenly and without explanation. Although Gretchen still keeps Walter’s secret, she later tells Skyler that she and Elliott will stop paying for the “treatment.” Later, after Skyler’s suspicions of Walt having an affair with Gretchen is renewed, Skyler makes contact with her and Gretchen eventually tells her that they never paid for any of Walt’s medical bills.

* Ted Beneke (played by Christoper Cousins) is the President/Owner of Beneke Fabrictors. He gives Skyler her old job back as an accountant during season two. Ted has always been attracted to Skyler but doesn’t make any advances since her return. Ted commits tax fraud to keep the company alive and save everyone’s job. He admits this when Skyler finds out by investigating the company’s books.

* Saul Goodman (played by Bob Odenkirk) is Walter and Jesse’s criminal lawyer, whom they hired after Badger’s arrest. His real name is Saul McGill, but his clients feel more confident with a Jewish lawyer. Saul initially appears to just be a sleazy criminal defense lawyer with a cheesy television ad, but turns out to be far more knowledgeable and comfortable with the illegal drug trade than either Walter and Jesse. He has considerable connections with the criminal underworld and works as a facilitator to that end. He eventually works his way into a more regular advisory role with Walter and Jesse. When Jane dies in the presence of Jesse with drug paraphernalia around, Saul, at Walt’s behest sends Mike to clean up the scene and instruct Jesse on what to say to the authorities.

* Gustavo “Gus” Fring (played by Giancarlo Esposito) is a successful yet low-key drug distributor. He has been a distributor for 20 years and has never been caught. Very few people know what he looks like. Saul manages to arrange a meeting between Walter, Jesse and Gus at a fast food restaurant called “Los Pollos Hermanos” (”The Chicken Brothers”). Gus seemingly never shows up – it is later revealed that Gus is the owner of Los Pollos Hermanos, and was there the day of the meeting working behind the counter. He buys 38 pounds of Walter and Jesse’s meth for 1.2 million.

* Clovis (played by Tom Kiesche) is Badger’s cousin who operates a vehicle towing and repair service. When Jesse’s RV quit running, Clovis charged him an exhorbitant amount to tow and store the vehicle due to its cargo. Clovis repaired the RV and caught Jesse sleeping in it after Jesse had scaled the fence (and destroyed a portable toilet in the process) after being evicted from his home. Clovis ordered Jesse to pay for the repairs and property damage and then threatened to sell off Jesse’s inventory to cover the repairs when Jesse claimed he could not furnish immediate payment. Jesse again broke into the gated lot and drove through the gate without paying for the repairs. He later returned to pay Clovis for the repairs and damages and made arrangements to store the RV inside Clovis’ gated lot for $500 per week. Clovis also sold Jesse a used red hatchback.

* Spooge (played by David Ury) is a drug addict who stole meth from Skinny Pete at knifepoint. He was later accosted by Jesse in his home as Jesse attempted to retrieve the stolen drugs and/or cash payment. Spooge attempted to repay Jesse by breaking open an ATM he had stolen from a convenience store. While attempting to drill into the machine from the bottom, he began verbally abusing his girlfriend (played by Dale Dickey) who tipped the ATM, crushing Spooge’s head and killing him instantly. Spooge’s death was attributed to Jesse among his associates and rivals for a short period until the woman confessed the murder.

* Domingo Gallardo “Krazy 8″ Molina (played by Max Arciniega) is a meth distributor formerly associated with Jesse Pinkman and Emilio. Unbeknownst to Walt and Jesse, Krazy 8 is a DEA informant, acquiring the customers of the dealers he rats out. Krazy 8 becomes suspicious of Jesse when he attempts to sell him a new product after Emilio’s arrest and forces Jesse to take him to his new partner. Krazy 8 suspects Walt is involved with law enforcement and appears intent to kill him until Walt offers to teach him his drug formula. While mixing chemicals, Walt creates a small explosion that produces phosphine gas and appears to kill both Emilio and Krazy 8. Emilio dies, but Krazy 8 eventually regains consciousness, prompting Jesse and Walt imprison him in Jesse’s basement for several days as Walt works up the courage to kill him. Walt attempts to rationalize freeing Krazy 8, who has regained his health, but eventually strangles him with a bike lock upon realizing Krazy 8 plans to attack him with a concealed piece of a broken plate.

* Hugo Archilleya (played by Pierre Barrera) was the janitor at the school Walt works at and Walt Jr. attends. He and Walt developed sort of a “friendship” when Walt would vomit in the school bathroom and Hugo would comfort him, offer him a piece of gum, and clean it up. Hugo had a criminal record, allowing Hank to search his truck, where he found marijuana. As a result, Hank concluded that Hugo stole the meth equipment and arrested him. Walt felt guilty about the innocent Hugo being arrested for his crime.

* Tortuga (played by Danny Trejo) Literally “Tortoise” in English, he was an informant to the DEA in El Paso on the inner workings of the Mexican cartels. However, the cartel discovered that Tortuga was a snitch. They cut off his head and placed it on a tortoise with the words “Hola DEA” written across its shell. A hidden bomb in the turtle then exploded, severely injuring some of the DEA Agents and Mexican Police on the scene with Hank.

* Emilio Koyama (played by John Koyama) is Jesse’s former partner and cousin of Krazy 8. Emilio is arrested during a raid in which the DEA is looking for “Captain Cook” (Jesse’s alias). Emilio makes bail and suspects Jesse ratted him out to the DEA and forces Jesse to lead him and Krazy 8 to his new partner (Walt). Emilio recognizes Walt from the time of his arrest and suggests killing both Walt and Jesse. Walt convinces them to spare their lives if he teaches him his meth formula. While the three are in the RV, Walt deliberately causes a chemical explosion and flees, trapping Emilio and Krazy 8 inside the RV with deadly phosphene gas. Emilio dies and is subsequently disposed of by being dissolved in hydroflouric acid in Jesse’s bathtub.

* Mike (played by Jonathan Banks) is a cleaner that is in the employ of Saul. When Jane dies, Jesse calls Saul who sends Mike to clean up the evidence. Mike is very knowledgeable about police procedure and successfully cleans up the crime scene. Mike later escorts Walter to a drug den where Jesse is staying and offers to rescue Jesse himself, but Walter refuses.
